SANTHIGIRI AYURVEDA HERITAGE
Santhigiri Ayurvedic Heritage is owned by Santhigiri Ashram. Santhigiri Ashram housed amidst the sylvan surrounding at Potencode, 21 kms from Thiruvananthapuam, capital city of Kerala, was founded by Navajyothi Sree Karunakaraguru about 37 years ago. Started, at the outset in an austere thatched hut in rustic environment, the ashram complex today occupies more than a 100 acres of land at Potencode alone consisting of Prayer hall,Parnashala, Sahakarana Mandiram, Work centre, Dining hall, Kitchen & Accommodation facility for more than 1500 inmates.
Santhigiri Ashram has two units in the capital city; one is Shantigiri Ayurvedic hospital in Pothencode and Santhigiri Ayurvedic Heritage, Kovalam. Out of these only Ayurvedic Heritage at Kovalam provides services to the foreign tourists.

In order to promote Health Tourism in the state, Santhigiri Ashram has established an Ayurvedic Heritage centre at Kovalam, well known Beach Resort of Kerala. The centre caters to domestic and international tourists by making available facilities for elegant and leisurely stay along with authentic Ayurvedic Panchakarma Treatments as demanded by the therapy and prescribed by the Ayurvedic Science. Santigiri’s contribution towards Sustainability
(i) Free medicines are supplied whenever there is a crisis or spread of epidemic diseases.
(ii) Avoiding use of Plastic.
(iii) Use of Earthen pots and vessels.
Societal Services by the Santhigiri
v Karunyam: The project ‘Karunyam’ was launched by Santhigiri Ashram to mainly provide free medicines and treatments to the needy ones. Ayurveda and Siddha medicines are been provided free of cost to sick people as a part of the of project ,last year Santhigiri provided free medicines to the Chikungunia affected areas mainly to avoid further spreading .
v Herbal Project: Santhigiri Ashram has also adopted Herbal Project whereby herbal seedlings are provided to the local residents of Pothencode and other nearby area who have enough land in their house, to be cultivated on their lands. Here the seeds and fertilizers are provided free of cost and collecting back guarantee with payments is assured to the people.
v Karuna Shudha Jalam: (Rain water harvesting scheme): Pothencode in Trivandrum is a locality facing acute water scarcity, so this Karuna Shudha Jalam project has really helped people from this problem unto a certain limit.
v Annadanam: Annadanam is related to providing free meals to the people who visit ashram , the annadanam is done every day and almost all the people who make their way to the ashram are provided with free meals .
All these services are provided absolutely free of cost and not even a single paise is charged from any person. The main source of fund for all these activities are from the donation which the ashram gets from both domestic and international visitors and also from the revenue generated from the other organization run by the Ashram like ,Higher Secondary School , Santhigiri Exports ,which exports coirs and other herbal products.
The heritage is also trying at its level to promote tourism in the state. It is having tie-up with international tourist organization like IATA and PACIFIC ASIA to promote the Kerala tourism and health tourism in the state. But the main promotion is through word of mouth.
